Lately, I have observed my body experience a number of changes – some good, some not so good. My weight has fluctuated over the past few months which stimulated a range of emotions. Ultimately, I determined that the best course of action was to keep moving forward.

The idea to keep moving forward means to remain persistent with healthier food choices as much as possible. It also means to continuing with regular exercise, which for me is a combination of strength training and some form of cardio. However, the concept of “keep moving” can be applied to other aspects of my life including career aspirations, family life and hobbies.

My experiences with weight fluctuation are somewhat metaphorical to other aspects of my life. The struggle with maintain a healthy weight can at times parallel the struggle to regain footing in a career that has been fledgling for a while. I consider myself to be a wilderness professionally with aspirations that live on despite the challenges for opportunities.

One obvious difference with my career trajectory and my weight journey is that the latter remains more in my control. While it can be difficult at times to refrain from food or drinks that provide emotional respite from daily life struggles, it remains my choice to make. I continue to embrace that challenge, which never seems to get any easier.

What continues to be strange is that despite my struggles, when I do look at myself in the mirror at the gym, I am stunned to see the slim figure in the reflection. Additionally, the gradual muscle tone is an adjustment for mentally. While I am not where I want to be, I am making progress. At the end of the day, I just need to keep moving forward.
