Gradual Gains

As time passes, I’m coming to terms with the reality that there’ll always be roadblocks on the path forward. There’ll always be hills to climb. The path to weight loss and muscle gain is no exception. I’m making gradual gains through perseverance and patience.

Even as I write these words, I’m multitasking with home crises that divide my attention in ways that can be emotionally distressing. There’s no perfect time or scenario for consistently pursuing better health. It just has to be wedged into everything else that goes on. Sometimes that can be painful and discomforting.

The process of muscle gain and weight loss can be frustrating and discouraging. There are weeks when it feels like the healthy eating and workouts are failing as my weight stagnates or increases. I’m relearning to check my progress in intervals of 3-5 days. I’m also accepting that there are various reasons that workouts and nutrition can lead to temporary weight gain.

At this time, I’m around 221.6 pounds, which is an improvement from the 225-227-pound range I was in for a while. My body composition continues to gradually change. My habits are not perfect, though. I don’t always get the appropriate amount of sleep and there’s stress from daily life.

Lately, I’ve just made a decision to gut through everything to keep some level of consistency with my nutrition and exercise. The grit and perseverance are paying off with gradual gains. These are those moments on the journey when it’s easy to give up, but I won’t. I’ll continue to take it one gain at a time.
