Slowly Rise

As I sit confronted with figurative and literal remainders of past failures, I feel resolve to press ahead. I do so while coming to terms with how difficult the path might be. I think this blog, the journey it chronicles can remind me of what’s possible. I’ll need that and more as I slowly rise again from the depths of quiet despair.

In reflecting on wellness, I know it’s far more than pounds shed, or muscle gained. It’s much deeper for each person. For me, the accomplishment of weight loss fills a void in other areas of my life. It’s been like a beautiful, glistening flower in the middle of debris and waste. My wellness journey came at a time when disappointments mounted. It’s been a pleasantly ironic remainder that more is possible in this life.

Perhaps the most valuable aspect of this journey has been the process of gradual change. All those days, weeks and months of exercising, reasonable nutrition, and reflection took time. As I refocus now, I can see how the years of slow, deliberate practices have changed me. In my recent post, I gained back some of the weight, but it’s different. I’m different. My life is different. Yet the process of slowly rising from the depths of failure and disappointment is deeply engrained. I can write this with confidence.

I can’t be certain about all areas of my life, but I do know that this process works and within months, I’ll return to form. However, this time I think I’ll go beyond my perceived mountain top to discover new heights. This is my year to see what my optimal body looks, feels like. I’m not in a hurry, but in a frame of mind to steadily get there. My commitment to slowly rise from this point is firm.
