Another wonderful month of June has come and quickly passed as we only have 10 days left! Yet so much as happened over the past few weeks. There were end-of-year celebrations, graduations, birthdays AND a nasty virus that zapped my energy. The most important take away for me is a sense that now is the time to forge ahead.
Over the past few weeks, I figured out how to enjoy all these celebrations without veering too far off my health and fitness goals. Not only did I manage my weight while saying “yes” to celebratory toasts, birthday cakes and pasta dinners, but I actually lost weight. In fact I ended up losing more than expected because of a virus that killed my appetite for a few days.
It’s not the way I’d recommend losing weight, but it definitely contributed. I currently weigh 213 pounds. Most importantly, I can feel and see the difference in my body. I sense a wave of momentum that’s screaming at me “it’s time to forge ahead.” For me, that means take my disciplined eating and exercise to the next level.
A return to my desired weight is in striking distance. With persistence, I can reach it by year’s end without major disruptions to my daily life. It’s been about integrating changes in my life where it’s most practical. For example, I went fruit picking with my wife and son today, and my better half packed sandwiches for us. I politely declined the salami and cheese sandwich because I decided that I wasn’t eating that unless it was absolutely necessary.
This was a small, but meaningful change as it strengthened my confidence with food choices. I ended up eating some fruit, veggies and chicken at home, which was much tastier. Most importantly, I added another small victory to my belt. I also made sure to get in some push ups in the morning and evening. Now is definitely the time to lock in.
I’ve even upped my game with hydration by making sure I hit 60-64 ounces of water daily. I’m not a fitness trainer or former athlete. My profile is similar to so many out there who want to look and feel better. It’s time to forge ahead gents. We can do this!
