All is Not Lost

I decided to end my year with a post of levity. In terms of my health and fitness, 2024 was a bit of a failure. During the year I gained 15 pounds after gaining 14 the previous year. So I will end 2024 weighing 224 pounds. All is not lost though, as I’ve enjoyed good times along the way with family and friends.

This journey has challenged me to develop new levels of self-discipline and perseverance. In retrospect, the pandemic provided me respite from the rat race of life that consumes time, energy and resources. At the same time, I cherish the celebratory experiences that involved sometimes not-so-healthy foods.

To be honest, that is only part of the reason for my weight gain. I can point to several moments of undisciplined snacking, eating late and little attention to what I ate. It all adds up. While I’ve even increased muscle mass, my six-pack abs are gone. I know that I consciously made decisions that led to this point.

What’s interesting is that I feel…okay about things. I intend to drop the weight once again, as my health requires it, but I don’t feel panicked. I enjoyed a wonderful New Year’s Eve dinner with family and friends. I’ll bring in 2025 with an adult beverage and probably enjoy a nice meal tomorrow. However, I’m fully confident in my ability to reduce my weight over time.

It’s not the end of the world. It’s simply changes in eating habits that’ll happen over time. I’m excited to see what becomes of the muscle I’ve gained as the weight drops. I know all is not. This is just another turning point in my amazing health and wellness journey.

Happy New Year!!!
